Ideal for people-watching with affordable coffee, and in the heart of Old Nicosia is the sole cafe belonging to G. Charalambous (Γ. Χαραλάμπους) - a household name for traditional Cypriot coffee and the importer of renowned European brands of coffee and tea.
As the representative of
Lavazza, Celest instant coffee and Ahmad Tea on the island, they serve
relatively cheap beverages from 2 to 3 euros. I had a deliciously aromatic and
creamy latte with a big slice of apricot tart with the freshest and tastiest
jam inside. The cheesecake was baked perfectly, packed with flavour and was
complimented by a refreshing berry coulis. There are also muffins and sesame
cookies if you want something lighter on the calorie side. On the whole, it's
definitely worth stopping by for a quick pick-me-up drink - it's my fave
hangout spot for Old Nicosia at the moment.

The cafe is actually the site
of where the famous coffee company began as a small shop with mills grinding
and toasting coffee beans back in 1943. True to tradition, the traditional
Cypriot coffee is made on a bed of hot sand, there are also Cypriot snacks such
as preserved fruit and vegetables (γλυκά) as well as all kinds of toasted nuts
for you to try!
