When it comes to breakfast, you can grab a full English at most places. But it's only now that Cyprus is being introduced to the concept of 'brunching' with many places beginning to offer more creative late morning specials. Cafe Kouzina is definitely my new local for a tasty start to the day.
I was in Larnaca showing a friend round who was over from London and as usual, I wanted somewhere off the seafront with decent snacks for us to eat on a lazy Sunday morning. So we decided it was time to try Cafe Kouzina as I had heard from friends that their pasta dishes and salads were very good and thought I would give the breakfast menu a go. It's on the main shopping road of Larnaca, great for popping in whilst shopping or at the seafront - Now... Take a look at this:

This dish tastes just as good
as it looks. It's Cafe Kouzina's version of Eggs Benedict: bacon with poached
eggs on toasted bread (either ciabatta or bagel) with hollandaise sauce on top,
served with slices of avocado. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the
combination of bacon with avocado is one of my favourites so it's the best
brunch dish I've had on the island so far. And there all kinds of exciting
dishes still to try - my friend had the 'Grecian Eggs' - scrambled eggs with
spinach, feta and fresh cream in a hearty portion. And their prices are very
reasonable, in comparison to some places advertising breakfast on Phinikoudes,
that are always too packed and smoky on weekends.
They also have slightly
healthier options such as fresh muffins, porridge and muesli dishes as well as
smoked salmon as a side dish which complements scrambled eggs beautifully. I
enjoyed my brunch together with their herbal tea, made with all kinds of fresh
leaves whereas my friend had a frothy frappe. Their coffee-based beverages
(Carraro) are equally good for a quick pick-me-up drink. Aside from the
extensive brunch menu, they also have their daily specials and they specialise
in Italian cuisine with all kinds of pasta, risotto and pizza dishes.
Definitely a little quaint spot that promises to become even more popular now
that everybody is talking about it.
