There are very few places in Larnaca that specialise in steak and Panos' Steak House is well-worth visiting, not just for the premium meat on offer, but also the great environment given its recent revamp.
Established in 1975, Panos was once one of the many inconspicuous restaurants
at the end of the seafront with modest decor. Now under the direction of his
son, Panos Steak House has undergone a facelift, offering two complete
different rooms for dining. The ground floor is an alcove of wood, soft
lighting and baroque-inspired furniture and the upstairs area - ideal for
private functions - overlooks the Mediterranean with unspoilt views of the
seafront.
The service is great as the waiter guided us through the various options
of steak, which aside from the different types on offer, including the usual
rump, rib-eye, sirloin and fillet, there is also Black Angus Beef available,
famed for its particular taste. This is because it is finely marbled,
which means that the fat is dispersed evenly against the actual cut of meat.
This marbling trait of Angus cattle typically creates a more tender, juicy and
flavorful meat than other breeds. So although many sauces are available to
accompany your steak (go for the 'Black and White' option), Black Angus is
worth trying on its own to really appreciate the flavour.
The menu does not stop at these fine cuts of meat as Panos has all kinds of
dishes on offer to suit all tastes. Some of you may find it a bit touristy but
given its location, it's only natural that they would include many Cypriot
delicacies and commercial dishes. However everything is well-cooked and served
piping-hot by the most attentive staff. What's more, on the weekends, you can
enjoy live piano music with English and Greek music to accompany you throughout
the evening.
