There are countless places to grab a coffee for a quick fix but with its freshly prepared desserts, Duosmos is unique for a chilled afternoon experience.
I have been visiting Duosmos ever since it opened and even though it now boasts the 'Kitchen Bar' with savoury treats next door, I still have a soft spot for the original coffee shop, just because most places in Old Nicosia are packed on the weekend, with the waiters whizzing past, eager to complete your order and kick you out. But at Duosmos, you can sit back and take in the romantic decor inside or 'people-watch' out on Onasagorou for as long as you like - if you can grab a table that is. Last weekend when we had a temporary cold spell, the old town was unusually dead and Duomos along with the other cafes were relatively empty and so we grabbed a spot inside.
Their coffee is always great, with all kinds of combinations to choose from, depending on how much you want to embellish your coffee shot. The real showstoppers though are their cakes, not only for their presentation but the love that goes into the recipes. I usually go for the apple pie or the tiramisu but this time, I ordered the carrot cake which is divine thanks to its spicy cinammon-infused sponge and its tangy, lemon cream filling. I also got to cheekily tuck into the pumpkin-flavoured cheesecake opposite me, again an amazing union of tart pumpkin with the cheesecake cream and honey drizzled on top. It's also ideal for visiting with people of all ages, whether it's a catch-up with friends or a mother-and-daughter afternoon.
