Oshi Asian Restaurant

52, Eleftherias Street
25377770

Every winding side street and dimly-lit square in Palia Lemeso uncovers new and exciting places for dining or drinks. In the midst of the many quaint and traditional taverns and bars of Eleftherias Street is the new and modern Oshi Asian restaurant, which claims to be one of the most high-tech places to eat in Europe.

Oshi offers a unique dining experience, with its state-of-the-art interactive tables. These 55-inch LED screens allow you to access all kinds of information related to your night out, as it sensors your finger moving above the images and options. You can browse or make an order of your chosen dishes, call a waiter, ask for cutlery or even watch the chefs preparing your meal behind the scenes via their live camera - almost every request is accessible at your fingertips! It's a fun activity to share at the table although it is rather time-consuming, especially if you're first-timers.

So given how easy it is to select and order dishes, we got carried away and checked out most of the starters and sides on offer. Regarding the sushi, the rolls were all beautifully presented, with fresh ingredients and a tangy kick to them thanks to the spicy tempura flakes. For starters, you can't go wrong with their delicious soups, the ebi tempura and the ebi spring rolls as well as the Oriental duck salad, served in cups of orange peel. A favourite of ours was the simple but addictive wakame salad which is literally seaweed mixed with sesame seeds, soy sauce and a hint of chilli and sugar. This was all accompanied by their cocktails - a little on the strong side - as well as the famous Chinese Tsingtao beer that my friend fell in love with.

So after checking out most of the appetizers, we anticipated our main course with high expectations and unfortunately, many of us were slightly disappointed. For anyone familiar with any form of Asian cuisine, you will find that the Oshi dishes are relatively 'safe' and rather dull - Tandoori chicken skewers, vegetable noodles, different chow mein dishes, sweet and sour chicken and satay pork are some of the options when perhaps, a more creative fusion menu could have been put together. On the plus side, there are many vegetarian dishes and seafood creations such as Halibut parcel and Teriyaki Black Cod however on the whole, there is room for improvement when it comes to the meat dishes.
