Solonos Street, Old Nicosia
Now that Old Nicosia has officially become the trendy part of town, Onasagorou and Ledras Street are getting a little too packed for my liking. So best to head into the backstreets where you will discover Kafeneion Mple tucked away.

It was a busy Saturday afternoon in Old Nicosia and there was not even an empty chair in sight, with each cafe I visited. As we walked down Onasagorou, we turned right into Ippokratous street and at the left of Rami Nargile Centre (the sheesha hangout place near Fanous) is a new little cafe - very quaint and peaceful with cute tables and colourful blankets to keep you extra warm under the outdoor heaters.
There's a small menu but for just a few euros,
you can enjoy all kinds of traditional drinks such as zivanomelo, krasomelo and
teas with mountain herbs as well as beers, spirits and various types of coffee.
But the best part is that whatever you order is served with traditional snacks
on the side, from pastelli to dried figs, halva and other yummy treats.
For snacks, they have toasted sandwiches and now
that the winter cold is particuarly biting, they also serve huge bowls of
trachana with chunks of halloumi at just three euros! A lovely little place,
popular both during the winter in the blanket or under the stars in the
summer.
